Alma M. Karlin (1889– 1950) traveled the world entirely on her own and documented her often bitter experiences in several travelogues, which have now been reissued in the original German by AvivA Verlag. Alma Karlin often felt threatened and even foreign in her hometown of Celje. She found her spiritual home in Japan, where she even worked at the German Embassy for some time. Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Berlin, Dr. Ana Polak Petrič, who also worked in Japan, the author of the first scientific monograph 'The Endless Journey of Alma Karlin,' and the curator of outstanding exhibitions, Barbara Trnovec, as well as the director of AvivA Verlag, Britta Jürg, will speak about Alma Karlin as an extraordinary woman and author, her world travels, and the role of women in diplomacy.
Barbara Trnovec, an anthropologist, researcher, writer, lecturer, curator, and museum consultant, is the author of the book "The Endless Journey of Alma M. Karlin" (2020), the first scholarly monograph about her life, work, and legacy, published in three languages.
