An exhibition in cooperation with the Technical Museum of Slovenia on the occasion of the Guest of Honour of the Frankfurt Book Fair 2023.
The exhibition, which will be shown in the art rooms of the Museum für Kommunikation Frankfurt from 17 September 2023 to 17 March 2024, focuses on the development of mobile telephony in Slovenia and Germany. Using selected objects from the Technical Museum of Slovenia and the Museum Foundation Post and Telecommunications, mobile phone history(s) will be presented in a dialogue.
"Halo! Kdo je tam?" is Slovenian and means "Hello! Who's there?". With this question, we welcome the Book Fair guest country Slovenia to Frankfurt for a discussion on the development of mobile telephony in both countries. Due to different political systems and technical developments, mobile telephony developed differently, especially in the early years in the young Republic of Slovenia and in reunited Germany. In Slovenia, the first mobile phone network was set up after independence in 1991. Over time, globalisation and digitalisation bring the practices of use closer and closer together. The special exhibition follows the history of mobile phones in dialogue up to the present. What experiences have mobile phone and Mobi owners had in the last 30 years? How will we communicate in the future?
Visitors can also take part in our joint discussion on site with their own mobile phone history.
