Reading: Roman Rozina – Hundret Jahre Blindheit

Hundert Jahre Blindheit (One Hundred Years of Blindness, Klett-Cotta) tells of the rise and fall of a family affected by the massive social upheavals that mark the eve of modernity.

When a child is born into the Knap family on May 24, 1900, no one suspects that little Matija will remain blind for the rest of his life. And yet, as it later turns out, he is the only one who really faces the challenges that lie ahead for the family. The farmers of his family become workers. While industrialization increasingly promotes the socialist workers' struggle and the emancipation movement overturns family structures, the wars of the 20th century summon the soldiers like evil spirits. In his novel, Roman Rozina revisits in front of our eyes a century that we are still often blind to today.
